Nikkan Sports reports that MBS Television held a press conference on September 27 to discuss its autumn programming; general programming director Kohei Yagi also commented on the current situation between the DAN DA DAN anime production committee and YOSHIKI’s representatives after a dispute over the use of YOSHIKI and X JAPAN’s likenesses in the series.

Yagi commented, “It’s true that we received a request from YOSHIKI’s side for dialogue. In response, our production committee properly engaged with YOSHIKI’s side in discussions. After understanding each other’s situations, the stance was one of, ‘Let’s move forward from here.’“
YOSHIKI had voiced confusion on social media on August 7 following the release of DAN DA DAN Episode 18’s insert song, “Hunting Soul,” a homage to YOSHIKI and his former group X JAPAN. He shared that he had been contacted by lawyers over possible copyright infringement, asking his fan base how he should react and tagging relevant parties for a response. This included DAN DA DAN‘s official profiles and streaming services. He added that he personally found it fun and would like to watch the series.

Just over a week later, the song was removed from several Japanese streaming services, followed by the anime’s production committee issuing an apology for failing to give YOSHIKI and X JAPAN prior notice. The statement added that they were engaged in constructive discussion and are considering future creative collaborations. The song later returned to streaming services.
