The anime GATE is coming back with a Season 2, more than 10 years after the first one aired in 2015. The new season is called GATE Season 2: Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, which means The Self-Defense Force Fights in That Sea.
This time, the story will take place at sea, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force will be the focus. Fans can expect big sea battles and exciting political drama in the fantasy world. Animation production will be handled by Studio M2, which also worked on PLUTO. The main staff includes:

Gate (Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri) is a Japanese fantasy novel series written by Takumi Yanai, with illustrations by Daisuke Izuka and Kurojishi. It was first posted online between 2006 and 2009 on a site called Arcadia, before being picked up by publisher AlphaPolis in 2010.
A manga version, drawn by Satoru Sao, started in 2011, and it was followed by three spin-off manga in 2015. The story was later adapted into an anime series, with the first half airing in mid-2015 and the second half in early 2016. In North America, the anime is licensed by Sentai Filmworks.
A sequel novel series titled Gate Season 2: Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri began in 2017.
